I use a Chi to straighten it just about everyday which is making an abundant split-end supply. If I don't straighten it I have to wear it up or braid it. I have tried a few things I found at Target but nothing has really worked. Would it be a good idea to layer it?(i have considered a shorter cut).Please help
I have long hair, It is neither curly nor straight, more of a frizzy mess.What can I use to tame it? OMG I know exactly what you mean! my hair is like that too. it's not straight, but it's not completely curly either. but there are a couple of things that you can do to make your hair look cuter:
buy an anti-frizz shampoo, like Herbal Essences "None of Your Frizzness" shampoo/conditioner. that works for me.
buy an anti-frizz gel/curling gel: John Frieda works well (found at probably any place that sells cosmetics and hair products). let your hair dry a little then put some in the "trouble" areas.
when you get out of the shower, don't wrap your hair in a turbine form with the towel. just let your hair down and gently dry with a towel thoroughly. then, blow-dry your hair with the special nozzle the comes with the blow dryer that's meant for minimizing the "blast" of the hair dryer and therefore reduces frizz. or, if you don't have that, put the setting of the dryer on low and lightly dry all of your hair. leave a little damp, though--don't completely dry it. and then add some gel to your hair.
if you want to layer it, get long layers and ask the hairdresser about your problem. they'll suggest a few things that'll help, like the way to wash your hair, what products to use, and what cut/style would be the best for your hair.
and try not to straighten in too much 'cause then you're hair will burn and fall out after a while. straighten it on REALLY bad days, when nothing else works.

U could blow dry it when its either wet or dry and use a large round brush and either roll it under or over depending on how you want it. Have you ever used moose? Use that when its wet and then blow dry it and scrunch it with your hands and that will give it more of a curly look. If your hair was shorter it would probably be more curly because the longer it is the more heavy it is and makes the hair that might be curly straight and frizzy. Hope this helps :)

I have curly hair, but only if I put something in it to tame the frizz. i use pantene curl spritz to make it curly and tame the frizz. I also use Sunn-??? to help the frizz to keep it straight. It's that stuff in the bright bottles, yellow, pink, ... I use the green bottle. It looks like lotion and smells good too. Good luck!

Tigi Catwalk Curls Rock products are great. There's shampoo and conditioner plus leave in conditioner and amplifier. Buy online or in a salon.
Bumble and Bumble Curl Conscious shampoo, conditioner and creme are wonderful stuff, but they are very pricey. You can buy them online through Amazon.com, eBay and other venues.
Aveda makes a product called Be Curly that works great for taming frizzies and enhancing your natural curl. Buy online or at your salon.
Shampoo and condition your hair and work in a little after-shampoo product like Be Curly. Dry naturally to about 90%, then work your fingers from beneath into your hair, starting at your neckline and spreading them gently. Repeat the process, working your way up to the crown, being careful to disturb your curols as little as possible.
If you must blowdry your hair, use a diffuser attachment and low fan setting to minimize frizziness and keep your curls intact. Scrunch it gently if you need to.

I have long hair, It is neither curly nor straight, more of a frizzy mess.What can I use to tame it? i used to have this problem and i hated my hair. go to a stylist and have them cut off your dead ends first. this will loosen up your wave/curl and let it be a little bouncier. i didnt realize how curly my hair really was until i did this. also, find a good leave in conditioner, the stylist may have a suggestion but those are normally ones that you can only buy there and can be pricey. i found myself using tresseme color thrive. its low price and it really works and helps to keep your hair shiny even if you dont color it.
if you want your hair curlier, run your fingers through it when youre rinsing your conditioner out but DONT brush it, scrunch and diffuse.

You can get long layers and side bangs if you like....You should go to the salon and they can help you find a cut that will flatter your face and helps tame frizz if you want something thats low maintence tell them.
What you can try to do is do deep conditioning once a week becuase frizziness comes from damage to your hair. Use moisturizing shampoo and conditioner try not to wash your hair every day. Applying a leave in conditioner will often help tame your frizz, Some good leave in conditioners: Aveda Brilliant Damage Control, Bumble and bumble leave in conditioner with frizz control, or Aussie Hair Insurance.
If you're going to blow dry your hair and you want it curly, use a diffuser on the end of your blowdryer. Flip your head over and scruch your hair, but not too much. Dry until your hair is almost dry, and then let air dry the last bit. This prevents frizziness. Use a mousse or pomade for this. Garnier Fructis has good products!!
If you want to blow dry your hair and you want it straight, use a product that helps with this Avedea Brilliant Anti-Humectant Pomade is a good one for this. Use a big round brush and blow dry your hair in sections, following the brush down through your hair. Remember to use a heat protectant. If you have frizzy hair, this usually makes your hair even more frizzy, so its best to always follow up by flat ironing your hair, and then locking it in with a spray shine.

- To style your hair using the curly-girl method you will need gel, a leave in cream, and conditioner at the minimum. Some less useful, but still nice stuff would be a blowdryer, a diffuser (reduces frizz in curly/wavy hair when used with dryer), and a microfiber hair turban (to dry wet hair while sleeping or in the morning).
-The main philosophy of the curly-girl method is to not use shampoo. This may sound unhygenic but it has actually made my hair less oily and dandruffy. Most shampoos contain some of the same chemicals found in laundry detergent (aka sodium laureth sulfate or anything close to that). They dry out curly hair. Also you shouldn't brush your curly hair dry because it damages the hair and makes it poof.
- Massaging of the scalp with conditioner to remove dirt is all that is needed. It will clean everything but super clingy silicones (cyclopentasiloxane and dimethicone are examples). Then rinse and spread conditioner on the outside layer of hair and the hair at the nape of your neck. Gently comb tangles out with your fingers or a wide toothed comb and rinse with cold/cool water.
- Do not brush/comb your hair after this point because it wil disturb the curl pattern (make sure you already have a part). It is also important to use gel on sopping wet hair and scrunch the hair with your fingers. Make sure gel is evenly distributed everywhere in your hair. If you use too much you can always scrunch out the crunchy texture later.
- Use paper towels or an old t-shirt to gently scrunch some of the water out (generic towels can make hair frizz). You can either let your hair air dry or wait ten minutes and then use a blowdryer with a diffuser. Dry until your hair is almost dry, and then let air dry the last bit. Do not touch the hair while it is air drying or it will frizz!
- Use a moisturizing conditioner, such as Desert Essence Organics Italian Red Grape Conditioner (found at health food/organic stores) or Activate Hydrating Conditioner (drugstore). The combo of products that I use daily is L'Oreal Out of Bed Weightless Texturizer (comes in a black-colored tub) and then Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Gel or Body Envy Gel, but there are more conditioners, gels, etc. on the websites. The products I recommended are my personal favorites and contain no silicones or drying alcohols.
- Your hair may seem worse at first, but it is just adjusting. This may take a couple weeks to begin working. Before you decide to quit shampoo, do a final cleanse with shampoo and stop the use of any products with silicones in them. I would also recommend getting about an inch trimmed off your hair for the split ends. Hope this helps!
